Reasons Not to Get Too Involved in Affiliate Marketing

I guess the title of the post was a little misleading as you’ll find out as you read, but it’s meant to get your attention!  This post might change how a lot of people think about affiliate marketing, and even work in general!

I know a few people who are making BIG money with affiliate marketing, but working hours upon hours to get there.  Do you think it’s worth it?  Ask almost any of these big affiliate money makers how many hours they put in to their “business” and if they don’t tell you 24/7 it’s usually really not to far away from just that.  I think that’s why after awhile a lot of marketers end up moving on to bigger and better projects.  Like Uber with Ubercamp, and Amit Mehta with ppc classroom.

If you love affiliate marketing then it’s no problem.  However in mine and a lot of other people’s cases, we may like it a lot, but we just don’t LOVE IT.  I honestly hope I never have to put that much time in to my business and probably never will.  My goal in life isn’t to see how much money I can have, it’s to have a good life while trying to get money out of the entire equation.  If any of you have read books like “Four Hour Work Week” you’ll begin to understand exactly what I’m talking about.

It’s called the “New Rich”.  The New Rich, aren’t the people with the big bucks (however it can be if you play your cards right).  It’s the people who are able to make enough money to have an incredible life while working hardly any hours to get there.  The “incredible life” part comes mostly from the fact that you aren’t spending all your time working.  This gives you much more time to do the things you really want to do like traveling and hanging out with family/friends.

Of course I’m not saying working that many hours is bad if you really, truly love what you do.  Except if you’re like me, you’d rather be doing a whole list of other things before sitting on the computer for up to 12 hours a day like some people do.

P.S. not sure why my last couple posts have had so much to do with The Four Hour Work Week, but I guess that style of life is something I really believe in!

Trully, for me is affiliate marketing the mix of both, living AND working. Both of them I really enjoy so there isn’t anything better than that – and you have to love your work to get there…

That’s how it is for me too. Of course I’m not making 6-figures a month like some people, but I do prefer where I am now not having to work very much at all. I also should mention, I definitely don’t HATE affiliate marketing, because for a job I would do it over a lot of things and I actually do enjoy it! However like a job, it’s not something that I want to take over my life like I have seen it do to some.

P.S. I wish I could understand your website! It looks like there’s a lot of good stuff there. Is that German?

Of course it’s worth it. Whats why we put in the hours. Calling PPC Classroom and UberCamp “Bigger and Better Things” is a joke. 4 hour work week is a load of crap of a book too.

Uber and ppc classroom are horrible things if you are thinking about it that way. My point was that they were going for things that they thought would be better in the long run. Otherwise why would they even attempt to do it? Unless it was because they wanted to help others so much, but I find that hard to believe for some of these guys. Also as I said previously if you love what you’re doing then that’s awesome! However, if you’re like me there are other things that you want to be doing in life.

I do like the idea of adjusting your life to work fewer hours so you can do the things you really love. That said, I just don’t know how to go about doing something similar for myself. Maybe after a few years.

  4. Nick says:

Yea start now if you can! I think that just knowing a lot of this stuff puts you ahead of so many people. If somebody can’t fully cut out work, it at least makes you think of ways to manage your free time differently if you still do have to work.

P.S. I guess the title of this post is a little misleading, looks like some people are just reading the title, skimming through, and posting a comment right a way. All while missing the entire purpose of this post.
